Village Gdinj, that is first time mentioned in…………….is composed of 7 villages or courts located on the east part of the Hvar Island whose altitude is 365meters above sea level. These seven small villages are: Dugi Dolac, Visoka, Talkovića Dvori, Banovi Dvori, Vrvolića dvori, Bonkovići and Stara Crkva.
At the beginning of 20th century a new small village is founded, called Nova Crkva, which becomes geographical, spiritual, administrative and cultural center of the village. To this fact contributed a new convent of St. Juraj and parish home that both date from 1900/1901.
In the year 1903 the house of Captain Nikola Visković is built. This house had a first postal office that was by that time located at the parish house.
School building was built in 1908, called Community school room. In the same year a house of educator and painter Ivko Radovanović was built. These days this house contains an art collection, historical documents, books, and photographs that captured the life of the village, of the Island and Dalmatia in general.
In 1910 the Community Hall was built. Historically it is very important building that played a big role in lives of habitants of Gdinj.
As of 1910 this building was a Postal office, which functions as such to this day. Also in the same building a financial station was located, that was called ‘Kažerma’ in local language.
In between the two World Wars the community hall’s basement was arranged to accommodate local gymnast society called Sokol. Today this hall is called ’Sokolana’.
During the World War II on the firs floor of the hall injured Partizan soldiers were treated.
After the World War II has passed the second floor of the hall becomes a clinic, and for a time it had a dentist office as well. On the first floor the office of the Local Peoples Board and the office for the agricultural community were situated.
Where it once used to be a gymnast hall it now becomes a meeting place for ‘electors gathering’, meetings of the other local organizations, dances, etc. The hall is renovated, and a new bigger stage was constructed. In the same area plays are being showed, and ceremonies are being kept.
Nowadays, the clinic is on the ground floor. During the summer months by the clinic there is a Tourist Information center.
