History of the facility

Village Gdinj, that is first time mentioned in…………….is composed of 7 villages or courts located on the east part of the Hvar Island whose altitude is 365meters above sea level. These seven small villages are: Dugi Dolac, Visoka, Talkovića Dvori, Banovi Dvori, Vrvolića dvori, Bonkovići and Stara Crkva.

At the beginning of 20th century a new small village is founded, called Nova Crkva, which becomes geographical, spiritual, administrative and cultural center of the village. To this fact contributed a new convent of St. Juraj and parish home that both date from 1900/1901.

In the year 1903 the house of Captain Nikola Visković is built. This house had a first postal office that was by that time located at the parish house.

School building was built in 1908, called Community school room. In the same year a house of educator and painter Ivko Radovanović was built. These days this house contains an art collection, historical documents, books, and photographs that captured the life of the village, of the Island and Dalmatia in general.
